Great to see everyone back at school and there are lots of exciting history things coming up. Year 7 will be on site at Fountains Abbey learning about the story of monasticism in the north of England. Year 8 will be exploring the story of slavery through key objects on site at the Wilberforce House Slavery Museum in Hull – the 2017 City of Culture. Meanwhile, the new GCSE course rolls into a new phase with Year 10 starting their British Depth study on Elizabethan England. Year 7 will be investigating how we can all work to keep York a great place to live for all its citizens. They will be interviewing people from Make it York, the University and the City Council – hopefully with a sneak peek at the new works at the Guildhall / Mansion House. Exciting plans are afoot for work with the Clements Hall Local History work as they are doing interesting work on local Conscientious Objectors in World War One. Meanwhile, the staff are looking forward to more learning with YorkCLIO at York Minster and they will bring back the new opportunities for students.
